Intensive ski-mountaineering course for beginners

Winter 2017/2018

This kind of course is aimed at all those who wish to learn how to move safely in a winter mountain environment.

It will take place in the valleys of Fiemme and Fassa, depending on snow conditions and the safety of slopes. How to progress uphill and downhill will be taught together with the evaluation of dangers and how to use the necessary equipment, including self rescue gear for avalanches.
Absolute beginners can take part in the course as well as people who have already been ski-mountaineering as long as they have a minimum amount of confidence downhill skiing.

When: Saturday 23 December, Saturday 30 December, Saturday 6th and Saturday 13th January.

Level required: no prior ski-mountaineering experience required, average skiing ability on groomed slopes.

Number of people: minimum 3, maximum 8 people.

Necessary equipment: complete ski-mountaineering kit (skis, bindings, boots, skins, ski poles). An avalanche transceiver will be used.



    Saturday 23 December 1 technical outing.
    Meeting point at Predazzo in Val di Fiemme, course presentation, registration, viewing of personal equipment and eventually integrating any missing gear with the opportunity to rent. Easy ski-mountaineering excursion with basic teaching techniques for uphill and downhill progression.

    Saturday 30 December 8.30 am 2nd technical outing.
    Easy ski-mountaineering excursion. Learning uphill and downhill techniques, with the introduction to various types of turns. Introduction on how to use an avalanche transceiver

    Saturday 6th January 8.30 am technical outing.
    Medium level ski-mountaineering excursion, with a lesson on special techniques aimed at- solving difficult situations both up and downhill. Evaluation of the snow conditions, of the territory and dangers, a self rescue rehearsal in an avalanche.

    Saturday 13 January 8.30 am 4th technical outing.
    Medium level ski-mountaineering excursions. Teaching advanced technique up and downhill on various types of snow. Use of topographic maps, how to pick an itinerary and organize an outing.
